Delhi / New Delhi :

Nai Delhi / The Embassy of India in Dublin organized a special hybrid event titled “Emerging Opportunities in the 8 Jewels of North Eastern India” on 25 November 2025. The event saw the participation of senior representatives from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Invest India, the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment of Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, several Chambers of Commerce of Irish counties, and leading business communities from India and Ireland.

The primary objective of the programme was to present the vast trade, tourism, cultural, and investment potential of the eight North Eastern states of India- Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim to international investors and tourism promoters.

During their presentations, officials from MDoNER and Invest India highlighted the rich cultural heritage, natural landscapes, biodiversity, traditional crafts, handloom products, agricultural produce, and emerging commercial sectors of the region. They emphasized that the North East has witnessed remarkable socio-economic growth in recent years due to the combined efforts of the Central and State Governments.

The officials also underlined that upgraded connectivity infrastructure airports, national highways, bridges, border trade routes, and digital infrastructure has significantly boosted tourism and industrial investment, making the region a new economic hub for global engagement.

Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador of India to Ireland, H.E. Akhilesh Mishra, noted that the event is being held at a special moment when Ireland is the partner country at Nagaland’s renowned Hornbill Festival. He stressed the transformation in India’s approach towards the North Eastern region under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. What was once the “Look East Policy” has now evolved into a comprehensive “Act East Strategy”, aimed at expanding India’s economic, cultural, and strategic ties with Southeast Asia and neighboring regions.

Ambassador Mishra highlighted that the North Eastern states now play a pivotal role in India’s national development plans. Enhanced initiatives such as Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, extensive NCC outreach, the promotion of Khelo India, and multiple cultural exchanges have strengthened emotional and cultural integration between the region and the rest of India.

He encouraged MDoNER and Invest India to explore the high-end tourism segment, similar to the model adopted by Bhutan, which focuses on adventure tourism, eco-tourism, wellness retreats, and experiential travel. The Ambassador also noted that the expansion of airports and logistics facilities in the North East has created an unprecedented opportunity for exporting organic products, herbal medicines, traditional textiles, and handicrafts to Western and European markets.
He assured that the Indian Embassy in Ireland will actively support initiatives aimed at strengthening trade, tourism, and cultural collaborations between Ireland and North Eastern India.

The event concluded with a shared commitment from participants to enhance cooperation, promote sustainable tourism models, and expand business partnerships that can empower local communities in the North Eastern region.
